Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
This Thursday, I joined Nic again to do tutoring with Marcelle. It was the last day of school, some students were having graduation ceremony. After coming back from a class activity, Marcelle joined us. Her teacher was also teaching her English vocabulary so the teacher assigned a vocabulary learning task for me and Nic. So we went to the library and let Marcelle use a laptop to finish the task. During the entire time, Marcelle couldn't focus sometime because she was bored, and she was afraid to make mistakes while she was not sure which word was which. Nic and I tried to build up her confidence telling her she should trust herself. Eventually, Marcelle finished the task. The biggest takeaway for me is that affective filter and making the class fun is really important in ESL teaching because it could potentially motivate students to overcome some struggles. It doesn't matter if the students are Marcelle's age or older because students need encouragement and motivation. On the other hand, students will lose attention if the class is boring.
