I
met with Mingu for almost an hour and a half on Monday evening. Mingu will be
the most advanced student that I’ve taught--he has already passed the TOEFL
exam--and even though I had conducted a needs assessment with him on Saturday,
I wasn’t sure what to expect. I tried to cram a lot into the time we had,
taking Mingu’s requests into account. First, we covered common American
greetings through the use of modal dialogues; then, we did a listening
comprehension exercise; finally, I asked Mingu to write a little about himself,
so I could leave with a better sense of his writing ability. I think he had a
really good time, and I know that he was pleased that he could confidently
introduce himself at the end of our session.
