Nic Reagan CO#2

Today I observed Professor Ciapetta's Group 4A Reading class. We were in the computer lab for the class. The previous day, the students had been assigned an 8-page reading. In class today, their assignment was to type a 1-2 page summary of the reading. Some students complained about how long the reading was, but the professor emphasized this is the nature of an advanced class and that successfully completing the CIES courses means they will be regular FSU students. It was stressed that students should use THEIR OWN language in completing the assignment- although use of a thesaurus was permitted. Professor Ciapetta made it clear the focus of the day's class assignment was to make sure students UNDERSTOOD the reading material and not necessarily that all the grammar/structure was perfect. Students were also taught quick techniques on the computer for double-spacing.
