Vie Miller TS#2
After wandering through an apartment complex off
Ocala Road and climbing a few sets of stars, I knocked on a door and was
invited into the apartment by Turki, my second tutee. He was dining with
friends after the day’s fast--Ramadan had only begun a few days beforehand--and
his friends made some space for me on the rugs. Most of them--including
Turki--were from Saudi Arabia and had been students at CIES for less than a
year. Over dinner, Turki told me that he had a degree in mathematics from his
home country and was looking for help with the spoken part of the TOEFL exam. I
promised him that we’d work on the spoken portion of the exam and promised
myself that I would reach out to my professor first thing next week and ask for
more information about how the exam is conducted (and if there are any practice
materials that I could use).
